Got a Kindle, studying Italian with a tutor (from Rome) and life is good

Leaving for Rome (and other parts of Italy) for one month on Monday, March 14 on Lee's 60th birthday. Today we seemed to start living like we were on holiday. Lazy in bed this morning, longer conversation over our cappuccino, ran errands for the trip and stopped by Lucia's Wine Bar for lunch (no vino.) I had a divine fish taco for $5.95! They just get it, don't they?

I'm taking Italian language lessons from a lovely Roman woman, Carmela Parisi, who teaches at the Italian Cultural Center here in Minneapolis after having taught at GW in D.C. (where my son went to college.) She's so kind and patient! How lucky am I that I found a Roman to teach me Italian when I am going to Rome! And she's making us a list of "must do" in Rome including her favorite spots. My brain feels like soggy pasta, but I think, when things settle, I may actually know a bit more than I did before. It's mostly grammar - which is so important. But...my vocab still seems a little slim.

Got a Kindle for the trip and now going to bed to read my first book on it...Slouching Toward Bethlehem by Joan Didion, one of my favorites.

Life is good.
